The European Closed Helmet is a derivation of close-fitting, full helmet, of the 16th and 17th century. The close helmet is developed from the armet of the 15th century, the first helmet to completely enclose the head while being fully functional. These types of helmets are made of four pieces: the skull, two cheek plates and the visor. It is believed that the close helmet resulted from a combination of different elements of armet and sallet used in Germany around 15th century. The full visor and bevor of the European Closed Helmets are pivoted from bolts on each side of the skull. These are generally constructed from 18 gauge steel. |
