The Medieval suits or armors were made of various metals like steel, brass, copper, etc in different eras. Originally it was a thick leather garment covering the body from neck to waist, consisting of a breastplate and a back-piece fastened together with straps, buckles, a gorget and a collar protecting the throat. In Homeric and Hellenistic times, it was made of bronze. With a black or lacquer like finish, these contain specific symbols to denote the identification of the countries the warriors belonged to or their own identification. These also contained the emblems of royalty and power such as, serpents, eagles, lions, etc. |
